CARDBOY SERIES

Art Toy Concept / Product Design

The ground-breaking creative art toy concept, CardBoy, received critical acclaim. Sold around the world and selling in stores such as Colette - Paris, Maharishi - London and Kid Robot - New York, to name a select few. It was designed as a solution to waste packaging by utilising the box to make the head of the figure. The set of 8 blind box figures went on to sell over 10,000 pieces worldwide.

In 2008 the ‘CardBoy Cartridges’ series was selected by MoMA as part of their Colour Chart exhibition and sold in their stores in New York and Tokyo.

CardBoy was a mini blind boxed series of figures, that when opened, the box transformed into the head of the figure. There were eight in the original series, all unique designs with attachments. The second series, ‘CardBoy Sneakers’ used classic sneaker packaging as the inspiration, also eight in the series. The third series, CardBoy Cartridges took inspirations from printer cartridges, four in the collection, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black.

CardBoy was created as an answer to the ‘what do you do with the box’ dilemma. Packaging is generally wasted, ripped apart and thrown away. But the boxes are an important part of the product. They are the thing you first see and what attracts you to the product in the first place. So why not utilise the packaging?
